We had good teachers. Most students don't.
We are four Class 10 students at Delhi Public School Bangalore East.
Every day we see what a good teacher changes. When we get stuck, someone notices. When we fall behind, someone helps us catch up. We know how lucky that makes us.
Across India, millions of students sit in crowded classrooms where nobody has time to notice that they got lost months ago. One missed idea in an old class quietly turns into fear of a whole subject. Coaching costs more than many families can pay, and at home there is often nobody who can explain the next step. These students are not less capable than us. They just never got the help we did.
That felt wrong to us. So we decided to build the tutor we were lucky to have, and give it to every student who needs one.
That is Gyanz.
The Gyanz team · Class 10, DPS Bangalore East
A personal tutor for every student who needs one.
Many students have no private tutor, cannot afford coaching, get no help at home, or do not feel confident enough to start.
Gyanz is for them. Good guidance that gets to know the student.

Who runs Gyanz
Gyanz is a pilot project run by a small team of school students. It is not a registered company yet. Gyanz is not released, and no one outside the pilot is using the app.
Privacy: this website
This website sets no cookies. It has no analytics, no ads and no tracking tools. It has no forms and does not ask you for any personal details.
The light or dark choice you make is remembered in your browser's own storage, on your device, so the page opens the way you left it. While a tab is open, the place you scrolled to is also kept in the browser's session storage, so Back returns you to it. Neither is sent anywhere.
The site loads its fonts, scripts and photos from its own address, not from other companies. Some footnotes link to other websites. Those sites load nothing until you click.
The site is hosted by GitHub. Like any web host, GitHub receives the usual details of a visit, such as the internet address and the time. Gyanz does not add any tool to collect or read them.
Privacy: the Gyanz app
These notes describe how the app works for families in the pilot.
The learning record (what the student knows and finds hard), the chat and a safety record are kept on the student's own computer. Gyanz has no server that receives them.
If a message looks unsafe, for example about hurting yourself or about sexual content, the app saves it on the computer so a parent can read it in the Safety view. It is not sent to Gyanz.
A parent can delete the learning record at any time with the "Delete learning record" button in the app.
Privacy: what goes to the AI company
When a student asks the tutor something or writes an answer, the app sends that text over the internet to an AI company that the parent chooses.
With the text, the app also sends the lesson notes, the student's class, the recent messages of the chat, and a short summary of what the check found. Each message is also sent a second time, to a smaller model of the same company, to check that it is safe.
The AI service is paid for through the parent's own account with that company. The key for that account stays on the student's computer and is never sent to Gyanz.
The company may keep what it receives for up to 30 days, and longer in some cases, for example to prevent misuse or when the law requires. Whether it uses this information to train its AI models depends on its own terms, which the parent should read. Its own privacy policy applies to what it receives. It may process the information outside India.
Please do not type a name, phone number, address or other private details into the app.
Privacy: updates
The app asks GitHub whether a newer version is ready. GitHub receives the usual details of a web request, such as the internet address, and may see the app version and the type of computer. Gyanz adds no name and no learning data to it. Nothing installs unless the user clicks.
Privacy: children
Gyanz is made for school students, so most people who use it are children. The app is set up by a parent or guardian, who reads the notice in the app and agrees before the AI is used. Gyanz shows no ads, does not sell information, and uses a student's learning record only to teach that student.
Privacy: your rights
India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 gives a person rights over their personal data. These include the right to ask for a summary of the data held about them, to ask for correction and erasure, to have a complaint answered, and to name someone to act for them. For a child, the parent or guardian acts for the child.
The records of the app are on the student's own computer, so a parent can see them in the app and can delete the learning record there. For what the AI company holds, please ask that company. To ask for anything above, or to complain to Gyanz, write to the address under Contact and complaints. If a complaint to Gyanz is not answered, a person can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Contact and complaints
For questions, complaints and requests about privacy, write to the1mteamdpsbe@gmail.com. The Gyanz team reads this inbox. Please do not put a child's full name or other private details in your message. The message goes through Google's email service. Families in the pilot also have a contact inside the app.
